Wednesday Addams is anything but ordinary. Portrayed by Jenna Ortega in Netflix's Addams Family spin-off series, Wednesday is a proud goth with a family that shares her love for the unusual and eerie. When Wednesday debuted on November 23, 2022, it became an instant hit, breaking viewership records and surpassing Stranger Things in a single-week streaming milestone.
Despite the first season's success, with only 8 episodes, fans were left with many unanswered questions. After all, the show’s final episode ends with Wednesday typing “The End?” on her screen. Here’s what we know so far about the next chapter in her story now that Season 2 has been confirmed.

Has Wednesday Been Renewed for Season 2?
Yes! Netflix officially renewed Wednesday for Season 2 in January 2024, followed by a teaser video that promised "more misery is coming," soundtracked by Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary.”
Co-showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough shared their excitement, stating, “We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore.”
In a 2022 interview, Millar mentioned wanting to explore more of the Addams family in future seasons, highlighting their earlier portrayal of Morticia and Gomez as teenagers, and the potential to dive deeper into their story. “We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters,” he said, praising Catherine Zeta-Jones’s portrayal of Morticia. “The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is essential, and Wednesday’s journey of forging her own path outside the family is key.”
Millar added, “We definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes if we get a second season.”
When Will Wednesday Season 2 Be Released?
Netflix hasn’t confirmed an exact release date yet, but fans can expect Season 2 to arrive in 2025.
What Will Wednesday Season 2 Be About?
The Addams Family franchise has a long history, offering a wealth of material to explore. The original characters were created by Charles Addams as cartoons in 1938 for The New Yorker, and over the years, they’ve become iconic in TV and film. For many, the 1990s films are the most recognizable, especially Christina Ricci's portrayal of Wednesday. Ricci even makes a guest appearance on Wednesday, adding an exciting callback to her original role.
The first season focused on Wednesday's arrival at Nevermore Academy, where she uncovers mysteries and faces supernatural challenges, including unknown creatures and murder. By the end of Season 1, multiple storylines were left open: Wednesday’s rivalry with the popular siren at school, anonymous threats from a “first stalker,” and Tyler’s transformation into his Hyde persona. These plot points hint at a renewed battle with new villains and unresolved mysteries for the upcoming season.
Ortega, who plays Wednesday, has expressed interest in seeing her character take a darker turn. “I kind of want her to be darker,” she told Entertainment Tonight in November 2022. “I want it to continue down an antihero path rather than a typical hero.” Ortega also hinted at the shift in tone for Season 2, saying in June 2023, “We’re going to get bolder, more dark.”
In September 2024, Netflix released a behind-the-scenes teaser that revealed the upcoming season would be even bigger and more twisted. Zeta-Jones promised, “This season is going to be bigger and more twisted than you can ever imagine,” while Ortega teased, “If we showed you any more, your eyes would bleed. And I’m not that generous.”

However, Christina Ricci and Gwendoline Christie, who appeared in Season 1, will not be returning for Season 2. Also, Percy Hynes White (Xavier) and Naomi J. Ogawa (Yoko) will not return. New cast members include Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor, with guest stars including Christopher Lloyd (Uncle Fester), Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo, Jamie McShane, and Fred Armisen. McShane, who played Sheriff Donovan Galpin in Season 1, will now appear as a guest star.
Additionally, Lady Gaga has been cast in Season 2, according to Entertainment Weekly. Although her role is still under wraps, her involvement is a fitting tribute, as her song “Bloody Mary” went viral with footage from Season 1. Production is currently taking place in Europe, and Netflix has yet to confirm details about her role.
Is Season 2 Filming Yet?
Netflix confirmed on May 7, 2024, that production had started in Ireland. The cast ensemble was shown together in a photo, and a video featured Thing handing out scripts. The first episode of Season 2 is titled "Here We Woe Again," and it is directed once again by Tim Burton.
On December 4, 2024, Netflix announced that filming for Season 2 had wrapped. Fans can expect more chilling surprises when the series returns in 2025. The showrunners teased that the upcoming season will explore more Addams Family lore and introduce an eclectic lineup of new characters.
Can I See a Trailer?
While there hasn’t been an official trailer yet, Netflix did release a sneak peek in a sizzle reel shared on January 30. The clip teases a scene with Wednesday confronting Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), as he’s detained at Willowhill Psychiatric Hospital.
Is Wednesday Leaving Netflix?
No, Wednesday will remain on Netflix. There was some speculation in early January 2023 regarding the show’s future on the platform, especially after Amazon acquired MGM, the show’s production company. However, Deadline confirmed that there were no changes to the show’s distribution, and it will continue to be "only on Netflix."
