Princess Kate drew inspiration from Princess Diana’s iconic style during her latest public appearance on Thursday.
As she gradually returns to royal duties following her remission from cancer, Kate visited Tŷ Hafan, the first children’s hospice built in Wales. The organization has a special connection to Kate’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, who supported the establishment of Tŷ Hafan ("Haven House" in Welsh) and served as its patron until her tragic passing in 1997. After Diana’s death, King Charles III took over the patronage but has now passed the role on to Kate.

“We are deeply honoured that Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales has become Patron of Tŷ Hafan, and it was an absolute pleasure to welcome Her Royal Highness to our hospice for the first time today,” said Tŷ Hafan’s chief executive, Irfon Rees, in a press release. “As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will be an inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers, and everyone who so generously supports us.”

Rees added, “No parent ever imagines that their child’s life will be short. Sadly, this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales. We can’t stop this from happening, but together we will ensure no one faces their child’s short life alone.”

For her visit, Kate appeared to honor Diana with a black-and-white houndstooth midi dress, featuring details like billowing bishop sleeves, a pussy bow, and a cinched waist. Houndstooth was one of Diana’s signature styles, making up many of her most memorable looks. Kate completed her ensemble with a white wool coat, gold jewelry from Spells of Love, and black patent-leather pumps with a block heel.
During her visit to Tŷ Hafan, Kate toured rooms and facilities, interacted with children receiving care, and met with families who are still supported by the hospice’s community.
