Since filing for divorce from her ex-husband Ye (formerly Kanye West) in 2021, Kim Kardashian has largely remained silent about their relationship, their co-parenting dynamic with their four children, and her thoughts on West’s frequent public outbursts, which have included antisemitic remarks and hate speech.
However, in Thursday’s (Feb. 13) episode of The Kardashians, Kim opened up about what may have contributed to the end of their marriage, while also discussing her sister Khloé’s own marital challenges. After Khloé had an emotional reunion with her ex-husband, retired NBA player Lamar Odom, after nine years apart, she reflected on marrying him “too quickly.” Despite their brief and tumultuous marriage, Khloé expressed that she wouldn’t change anything, lamenting that Odom’s struggles with substance use had ultimately torn them apart. "I know I picked the right person at that time," she said to Kim and their mother, Kris Jenner.
Kim appeared to relate to Khloé’s sentiments, possibly alluding to her own relationship with West. "That’s the hardest part. I’ve been there," Kim shared. "When you don’t foresee something happening that really changes a person’s personality, and then they’re not the same person, and you can’t ever get that person back, but you can’t live with the new person. I get it."
In a confessional segment, Kim continued, "It’s tougher when you don’t want your marriage to end off of personal reasons, but circumstances change that force your marriage to end. When you weren’t planning on that and that’s not really the outcome you want, but there’s no other option, I think it makes it harder to get over."
Although Kim didn’t mention West by name, her comments seemed to be referring to their relationship. The divorce was finalized after Kardashian filed to be legally single in early 2022, citing that West was causing "emotional distress" through his public statements and misinformation about their private matters.
Kim had previously addressed West’s struggles with bipolar disorder during their marriage. Recently, West, now married to Bianca Censori, claimed he was misdiagnosed and is likely on the autism spectrum.
Kim’s comments came just days after West deleted his X account following a four-day spree of antisemitic posts, where he declared "I’m a Nazi" and "I love Hitler," while briefly offering a shirt with a Nazi swastika for sale on his Yeezy site. The backlash was swift, with criticism from the ADL, fellow artists, and professionals, including a lawsuit from a Jewish staffer who accused him of comparing himself to Hitler and making threats due to her Jewish background.
