A recent study has revealed the best and worst countries for women to live in, with Finland proudly securing a spot in the top five. Leading the charge is Norway.
The 2024 Women’s Liveability Index, compiled by Nestpick, analyzed over 100 countries, considering various factors that impact women’s daily lives. These factors included domestic violence rates, the gender pay gap, period poverty, and overall female life expectancy.
After taking these factors into account, the study ranked Norway as the best country for women, thanks to its excellent quality of life and strong equality laws. With a gender pay gap of just 7.1%, Norway significantly outperforms Finland’s 15.2%, though both countries fare much better than the U.K.’s 17.9%.
Nestpick's Managing Director, Ömer Kücükdere, said, "As more women are moving abroad than ever before, we wanted to create a resource to help them understand the quality of life in different countries."
Finland, ranking 4th on the list, stands out for its gender equality policies, high female life expectancy, and strong social safety net. Despite not taking the top spot, Finland still outperforms several European countries, including Spain, France, and the U.K.
The top 10 countries for women to live in, according to the index, are:
