Dua Lipa is mourning the loss of Duo.
Language learning app Duolingo announced the sad news on Tuesday (Feb. 11) that its beloved mascot, the green bird known as the Duolingo Owl, has passed away. "Authorities are currently investigating the cause of death, and we are fully cooperating. Honestly, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but who are we to say?" the app posted on social media.
The statement humorously concluded with, "We appreciate you respecting Dua Lipa’s privacy at this time," as the Owl had often shown his admiration for the pop star with a similar name.
Lipa was clearly heartbroken by the loss of her feathered friend and took to X to share a touching tribute: “Til’ death duo part,” accompanied by a heartbreak emoji.
Duolingo had been a significant part of Lipa’s life, as she previously shared in a cover story that she aims to learn several languages by the time she's 35. "I want to know all of them," she said. "I get so jealous when people are speaking in French, or Spanish, or Italian, and I’m like, ‘F—.’ I just want to respond. I think I can pick them up fairly easily because of Albanian, although it’s quite different.”
Lipa isn’t the only one grieving the Owl’s passing. When Duolingo was asked by followers if there was a suspect in the case, they cheekily responded, "Authorities are looking into a Canadian rapper currently."
