Charli XCX is preparing to make her mark in Hollywood. The Grammy-nominated artist is set to produce and star in an upcoming A24 film titled The Moment—a fitting title for someone who truly embodies the moment. The film, which will be the first project under her production company, Studio365, is reportedly based on an original concept from Charli herself, according to Variety. While plot details remain under wraps, we’ve compiled everything we know so far about this exciting new venture. Stay tuned for updates!
Aidan Zamiri will direct the film.
Glasgow-born photographer and filmmaker Aidan Zamiri is making his feature film directorial debut with The Moment. Charli and Zamiri have previously collaborated on her music videos for 360 and Guess.
Zamiri also co-wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes, a culture writer whose work has appeared in i-D, Dazed, and Vice.
Though Charli is best known for her electro-pop anthems, she’s quickly positioning herself as an emerging star in Hollywood.
In addition to The Moment, Charli has a slate of acting projects on the horizon. These include Faces of Death, a remake of the 1978 horror film featuring Barbie Ferreira; Sacrifice, an action-comedy directed by Romain Gavras, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans; 100 Nights of Hero, a fantasy film directed by Julia Jackman, starring Nicholas Galitzine and Emma Corrin; I Want Your Sex, an erotic thriller starring Olivia Wilde; and The Gallerist, a dark comedy from Cathy Yan starring Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman. Charli has also landed a guest role in Benito Skinner’s Amazon Prime Video comedy series Overcompensating.
In a 2024 interview, Charli reflected on her acting journey, saying, “Everything’s been relatively small, and I’m enjoying learning about being on set and learning from great directors and actors. I hate it when musicians dive into a different field head-first without really learning or understanding much about it. So I did a lot of reading to educate myself over the past three or four years before I actually did anything.”
